WWF International expanded its global Youth Engagement Programme for 21–30-year-olds in 2024. The Programme, which provides internships, youth-led grassroots leadership programme and virtual mentorship opportunities, aims to inspire a new generation of environmental advocates and leaders, especially young women, in their countries and communities to actively contribute to youth and community-led conservation and help drive positive change.

Remuneration: Stipend for interns along with other benefits.

Mission of the Department

WWF supports the Government of Cameroon in sustainable management of natural resources and development of green growth to improve living conditions of local communities in the TRIDOM Cameroon Landscape. The department's mission is to ensure the development and implementation of Jengi TRIDOM programme to the highest standards, in line with WWF Cameroon's Conservation Strategy.

Major Functions

To strengthen understanding of the local impacts of climate change on communities and ecosystems to identify and promote effective and sustainable community-based adaptation strategies that will support the development and implementation of innovative and climate-resilient income-generating activities (IGAs).

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Documentary and field analysis: Carry out an inventory of the effects of climate change in the programme intervention areas. Identify existing local practices in terms of adaptation and IGAs.
  • Supporting the development of innovative IGAs: Proposing IGAs adapted to the local climatic context.
  • Monitoring and evaluation: Participate in the collection of field data on the results of IGAs (income, participation of young people/women, resilience). Develop simple participatory monitoring tools (e.g. data sheets, dashboards).
  • Awareness and communication: Organise or co-lead environmental education sessions on adaptation to climate change. Contribute to the production of communication materials (posters, videos, practical information sheets).
  • Report writing: Produce summary notes, case studies and an internship report including recommendations.

Profile Required

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Climate Change, Social Sciences or related field; Minimum of 6 months professional experience in climate change adaptation work or innovative and climate resilient IGAs.

Skills and Competencies: Ability to live in a rural area. Excellent interpersonal skills, complex and highly sensitive multi-stakeholder situations. Good communication skills. Fluency in French or English. Quick thinking; ability to react under pressure.

Working Relationships

Internal: Maintaining a working relationship and regular interaction with Jengi TRIDOM Programme Manager, Business & Industries Assistants, Collaborative Management Officer and other Jengi TRIDOM staff.

External: Work with local communities, civil society organisations and institutions working on climate change (ONAAC).
